We’ve all seen the commercials that portray our aches and pains. We can be honest here – that’s a part of life at times. But it isn’t the whole story. And it certainly isn’t representative of our whole, beautiful, vibrant, effervescent selves. I believe there is so much more ahead of us than behind us!
Recently I read this study called Seniors on the Small Screen and it showed that of the top rated TV shows, only 3 out of 72 unique series featured an actor over 50. I was pretty disappointed by those stats so for me, these findings represent a jumping off point. I want us all to flip the switch on what it means to be over 50 and love acting. At Pigs Do Fly Productions we put actors over 50 right out in front with productions that shine!
Here’s some ideas on where you wonderful 50-plus crowd can bring your love of life to shine too!
- Bring your character to life on stage. I have a great love of theater and acting and all things stage and screen. That’s why I do what I do with Pigs Do Fly Productions! I’m not limited by my age and you shouldn’t be either. If your dream has always been to shine under the lights of the theater as an actor over 50, stay tuned because we are announcing our auditions very soon!
- Get behind the scenes. Some of the greatest moments of the theater have emerged from the imaginations and real-life experiences of writers and directors 50-plus. If being front and center has never been your calling, maybe you can get involved behind the scenes. Is there a script dancing around in your head that the world should get to experience? Or perhaps you can help bring our productions to life with lighting and props!
- Go where we’re valued. Pigs Do Fly Productions develops and produces plays that highlight actors over 50 living their lives in interesting, involved, and exciting ways. So you know you’re valued here, right? Our newest show, MisMatch.com, runs March 15 through April 1, 2018 at the Empire Stage in Ft. Lauderdale. Don’t miss out. Tickets go on sale soon. Yes, that was a shameless plug! But I do mean it. Go where 50-plus is valued and our unique lust for life is celebrated.
Isn’t it time we flipped the switch on the stereotypes of the over 50’s that we see on most of the other stages? What other ideas do you have?
